Quest for CO2... 6/2007

Started each conversation with "Hi, I'm opening a new nightclub in a couple of weeks and I'm looking to find some CO2 and maybe some beverage syrups.. Can you help me?"

Name results 5 gal Coke #20
CO2

Houston Liquor & Bar Supply Told flat out that they do not offer co2 or BIB!

Jake's Fine Food

Told they can't "help" me.

Called back and explained that I was referred to them from someone currently buying co2 from them, and they took my information and said they would call back.

Tomas called me back "where is club located" wanted to come by.. will be here at 2:00 PM (did not ask for directions or address or even the NAME of the club... just wanted the crosstreet.. so this guy is coming out to Hempstead and 43rd street to a club that is not open yet, without knowing how to find it... -weird)

Jake's guy Jason showed up (how did he find me???) with a gorgeous woman in a short skirt named "Michelle" who said nothing other than "hello" the whole time. Jason didn't really want to talk prices, but he said delivery would be a $500 minimum and that CO2 was $59 for a full, and a $35 credit for an empty. He said that I would need a beverage tech to come out and service the equipment BEFORE they put product on it. They can't provide that service but he will call me with a number to "LANE" who can. They also told me that they sold Olives, cherries, limes, salt, bev naps, paper towel dispensers for my restrooms, straws, etc.

$68

$59
($35 credit for empty)

$24

Mim's Meat

Placed on hold 4 times, held for 35 minutes. Was told that they aren't taking new customers, was told that they couldn't help me, was finally connected to someone in sales who admitted they sold CO2 and BIB. There is a $400 minimum charge for delivery and Co2 is $94! They didn't know what size of Co2... just that it was $94. Turns out that you buy a cylinder (I still don't know what size it was, but they told me I could come take a look if I wanted) for $94, then when you bring it back you get an $80 credit. I was told that coke was $56.35 for 5 POUNDS!!

Mim's called me back later and told me to call Dynaflow at 713-973-0598

$56.35
Ruiz Distributing 20# tank is $16.95 $85 deposit.. real close so $75 minimum.. order before 3 and can have it the next day.. also have bev naps and cleaning supplies, stir stix, straws, salt, longpoint between antoine and wirt.. [most helpful and knowledgeable by FAR] (talked to GEORGE) $54.95 $16.95

No, I'm look at map! on Google
*Okay, well that's me. That building will be a club*
Why don't I come out there and take a look?
*I'm really just trying to compare prices right now, do you guys have a minimum order for delivery?*
Yes, but I might be able to work something out with you, where are you getting your equipment?
*I have some equipment that came with the building, so I just need the CO2 and syrups, is there a deposit on the CO2?*
$100 deposit, where did you get the equipment?
*the equipment was already here, I don't know where it came from, but I have a rack for BIB and I have a bar gun, so I'm good there, is that $100 PER CYLINDER?*

*no one is there right now, so all you could look at is the outside of the building, What is your minimum for delivery service?*
We can work with you on that, when will you be there next?
*I don't know, exactly. So you won't tell me what your minimum is for delivery?*
It varies, based on your application to become a customer I will bring you some forms by so that you can fill them out and sign them so that we can start processing your request.
*What request?*
So that we can make you a customer where I can work with you on the information to get you a good price.
*Good price on what? look, I just want to know if you have minimum purchase requirements for deliver, or delivery fees, or fuel charges, or what?*
I can get those answers for you, may I have a good number to call you back?

Update: Tuesday 7-19 (5 days later) Received call from Dyna Flow tech. He told me that Dynaflow sold CO2, but only to customers who purchased their beverage products. He said that CO2 ONLY came in 20# cylinders and that they were probably around $22 each.. He said it could be more $$ or less $$ but he was pretty sure that was about right. He also said that there was no deposit and no minimum delivery orders, but that I would be set up on an every other week basis. He also said he was pretty sure he was right about no minimums and no deposit, but not entirely sure, that I could talk to my route guy about that. He said that real coke sold for $62 for a 5 gallon box, and generic coke was $38.

$62 for real coke

$38 for generic

*sure*
This is Gary
*hey Gary, this is Sam, do you guys sell CO2 and Beverage syrups?*
Yes sir.
*do you have both 20# and 50 #*
hang on a sec, let me check
Where will you be located?
*hempstead and 43rd street*
Okay, let me check
I've got some info. for you.
*go ahead*
There is a federally required by LAW $3 hazmat, and a fuel surcharge that fluctuates around $3 right now, I think, and depending on how many you keep, there's a monthly rental of $5.25 per cylinder, but if you keep over 5 cylinders it's only $3.35 per month per cylinder. for deliver there is a $50 minimum, and if it's less than $50, it's a $15 delivery charge, but you'd have to talk to them to be sure.
*is there any deposit on the cylinders themselves*
uh, on that, you'd have to talk to the lady in charge of accounts to get that figured out.
*Can I talk to the lady in charge of accounts*
oh, on that you'd have to call back cause she's gone for the day, today.
*okay, so

20# =$13
50# =$19

As of 3:30PM on Wednesday, I still haven't heard back from Coke or Pepsi, and cannot reach Dr. Pepper.
